To do this first put a fighter in the first party slot.
Add another character to the second then drop the fighter.
Replace him with a mage.
Finish your party and in the mage's armor section should be leather or chain mail depending on which fighter you choose.
Note: don't ever take the armor off.

When you leave the first town, your first enemy will be a veteran night.
He's easy to kill and will give you chain mail and 40 experience points when you beat him.
After you beat the veteran night, save your game you will get a password.
Reset the game with your controller, then choose "Continue".
The password will be in already and go to exit, you will start from where you were but your enemy will be the veteran night again. Kill him and repeat the pattern as often as you'd like.
