When the crewmen asks you to help do this:

Turn red valves counterclockwise until they can't be turned anymore
Adjust Sea Water Pump level 1/2 to 3/4 open.
Maximize heat by main boiler control by 3/4.
Close steam valves until turbine power output is in the green zone

Do these:

Go with the couple that comes up at the end.
The couple will ask you to get into the life boat after the ship is sinking go with them when you have all the artifacts (Rubaiyat, Painting, and Notebook), or you will go down with the boat..
